The fifth stop of the PPR 101 tour will be The Bay Area, California, on Saturday May 30, 2009 where The Doubletree Hotel & Executive Meeting Center Berkeley Marina will play host. Allhiphop.com’s Steve Raze, Celebrity Publicist ChiQ Simms, Source Magazine’s Carlton Wade, Down Magazine’s Big Hawk, XXL’s Brandon Peters as well as Carl Cherry , MTV’s Jayson Rodrigues, Murder Dog Magazine’s Black Dog Bone many more will be among the panelists offering advice while taking note of the attending talent pool. Only 20 PPR 101 conference pre-registrants will be allowed an opportunity to showcase their skills. In The Bay Area, event organizers will debut the first PPR 101 Compilation CD. A cooperative endeavor with DJ KSB, Volume one of the compilation will feature some of the best talent who have performed and/or participated in a previously held PPR 101 seminar/showcase. “For many independent artists, we act as their unofficial publicist, via PPR 101. Long after PPR 101 has left their city, we continue to advise many past participants on how to build on their existing momentum. Having music included on the compilation cd affords the artists music reviews by top entertainment journalists and exposure in additional markets, even when they aren’t present. PPR 101 is not just an event; it’s a relationship of results, explains ChiQ Simms, event organizer and celebrity publicist.”

Pass it along!

Well- we just sent out the worldwide call for submissions & live auditions email for the 2009 SFHHDF. The word is out!
It is being circulated all over the world. Now I must sit and wait for the magic to come.
Last year I received submissions from ALL over the world!
I never know what may come my way-
there is always something that is so exciting and new that not many people have heard of around here. Thats what I love to find.
and then share with you of course-

Just a bit of advice- if you are a company that wants to send a submission- do it sooner than later! Dont wait till the deadline! The show may possibly booked if you wait too late.

If you are a local company- Its fine to set a live audition time and date- the deadline does not apply to the live auditions- they will be held in september.

so if you want to pass this along - here is the info---

Can you help out?

My beautiful friend Adrienne is going to be participating in a triathlon next month to support the SF Aids Foundation. I am so proud of her because she has never really been a swimmer. She has been really going outside herself to find the strength and courage to do this.
Well she informed me yesterday that she still needs people to help fund her efforts.
You can go to this link to donate and to keep track of her training process.

Dont use gotprint.com

Ok, I really didnt want to do this, but I had no choice.
It is time for me to start one of my many printing jobs that I do throughout the year.
The first thing I print is the flier for my performance workshop,
then ...
my class schedules, Mission in the Mix fliers, donation brochures for the SF Hip Hop DanceFest, fliers, posters and programs for the SF Hip Hop DanceFest...
whew! Its a lot of stuff that I have printed all year long.
I have always used the same company for my printing needs but one of my students told me about a company called gotprint.com and decided to use them because their prices were better. I had my graphic designer for this job, Natalia, send them files and let them know that we were using them for the first time and if we liked their service and products, we would certainly use them again.
Ok- so Natalia sent them the files AND put a rush order on the job because I needed them quickly. I needed to distribute the fliers about the workshop to my students and put them in different dance studios so that people could know about it.
Over a week goes by and NO fliers! Natalia calls them to find out what the hell is up. They told her that they sent her an email for her to approval of the flier. She was familiar with this process with other companies however NEVER received any email from them. She checked all her inboxes (junk mail etc).. nothin!
Ok so that was real yucky because I was expecting the fliers on RUSH order and now I find out that they havent even started to print my order yet.
So Natalia calls them to complain and hopes that they will offer a discount, refund or something! She reminded them that we were trying them out for the first time and were hoping to continue our services with them. ( and that some of our orders are rather large)

They replied that it is our personal choice whether we want to continue using their services. wow! what customer service huh?

It took SO long before I finally got my fliers which I know affects the enrollment of my upcoming workshop .

Natalia complained and I complained and we got NO response. I cant believe that in these times of financial times of stress that a company would be so complacent about losing potential customers.

I googled the companies name and found very quickly that I am not the only one that has big problems with the customer service department with gotprint.com

Ok I wont use them again obviously do not recommend them for all of you. So if any of you have any suggestions for me , plesae let me know.
thanks

Love and respect

Grant pending

The SF Hip Hop DanceFest is applying to receive a grant from the Phyllis C. Wattis Foundation. This is a wonderful organization that really helps out the arts community in the Bay Area. I met Carlie, the director of the program and the granddaughter of the founder of the foundation. I hopefully helped her realize that the SF Hip Hop DanceFest was an ideal candidate for an upcoming grant. We will know the outcome by the end of May. Lets all keep our fingers crossed ok?

Meanwhile check out this wonderful organization - www.wattisfoundation.org
